WHO CAN JOIN?

WHO CAN JOIN?

  • Agree to the general terms of membership 

  • Be either youth-led or organise with a focus on building youth power.

  • Accept and recognize that our theory of change in NCJC comes in multitudes and encompasses a lot of different tools for creating change

  • Work with tools that are non-violent towards humans and other living creatures and do not create permanent damage to non-living things 

  • Be mainly based in a Nordic country or area – defined as being Finland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Island, Faroe Islands, Sapmi or Kalaallit Nunaat.

The coalition is open to any Nordic group who:

Membership in the NCJC

For a group to become a member of the coalition, a membership application must be submitted to the coordination group. The board processes the applications, decides to approve or dismiss, and gets back to the group, making sure that the body with the mandate to enter into coalition approves.

The application must state if the group wants to be a tier 1 or tier 2 member:

Tier 1

  • Can vote at annual meetings (how does this work in practice?)

  • Must send at least 2 representatives to the annual meeting

  • Must have at least 1 person in a coalition working group (the board counts as a working group) 

  • Must have one representative who is in regular contact with the board about sharing resources

  • Can request money from the coalition for actions/events that have a cross-nordic element 

  • Can apply for grants on behalf of the coalition and get up to 80% of the grant money (to be reviewed, discussed and approved by the board)

  • Must have x representatives in a group chat for coordinating the coaliton

  • Must have clear communication ways between the group and the coalition

  • Can “call crunch” 

  • All of the tier 2 things

Tier 2

  • Are officially (for e.g. on the website) “a part of the Nordic Climate Justice Coalition”

  • Are asked regularly by the board what resources they are in need of and what resources they can share (money, people for actions, skills, time, experience, materials etc)

  • Have access to the coalition’s internal communication channels

  • Can ask the coalition or groups in the coalition to sign letters, share posts, cross post, and other shared communication

  • Are invited to the coalitions head actions, conferences, and other events

  • Can ask groups in the coalition for help with actions, campaigns, skillsharing, resourcesharing, and other events

The board looks over members quarterly.
If a tier 1 member hasn’t fulfilled their requirements in 3 months they become a tier 2 member instead.
