On August 27 2024 we initiated an action-week at the ONS oil-conference in Stavanger, Norway. The initiative came from Extinction Rebellion Norway, who mobilised activists from all over Norway, Denmark, Sweden and Finland to join their camp in Stavanger, and the collaboration lead to the establishment of what would become the Nordic Climate Justice Coalition. 

During the week, around a 100 activists blocked the entrances to the conference, made various happenings in and outside the conference-hall, disrupted Equinor’s garden party and made the news on the Norwegian NRK and international press.

December 2024, 60 of the leading climate activists from Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark met at Krogerup Højskole in Denmark and decided on a set of common goals for the coalition.

This historic week ignited the idea of a more combined Nordic movement and highlighted the commonality between our so-called “green frontrunner”-countries.

The name Nordic Climate Justice Coalition was chosen, and various working groups and organisational structure was decided.

On January 14, activists from various Nordic movements met in Sandefjord to protest against the yearly oil-conference at Scandic Hotel, where the industry was celebrating 53 new oil and gas licences in the Arctic and North Sea.

The activists successfully delayed the conference, and disturbed the attendees with continued presence and pressure both day and night.

In april 2025, Nordic activists gathered once more at the Annual General Meeting of the Swedish bank SEB held at the Swedish Riksbank, to protest against their enormous investments in fossil fuel expansions.

We protested for a week outside the National Bank, and also made it inside the meeting, where a clip of Greta Thunberg being physically confronted by an attendee went viral.

At the largest festival in Northern Europe, Roskilde Festival, we did a live public launch of the coalition. In front of an audience of around 50.000 people at the Arena-stage, the Danish pop-star MØ invited us on stage with a 12 meter wide banner saying ‘Join the fight for climate justice’ and Palestinian flags, where Yasmin Brandrup-Versi, Greta Thunberg and Lea Wiggen Kramhøft from the coalition did a speech on solidarity with the people of Gaza and other indigenous peoples being displaced and harmed by colonial powers, and on the need for resistance against the Nordic countries’ false claims of being “green and progressive”.
